Appletons is an 18th Century farmhouse lovingly restored to a high standard by Malcolm and Edward, retaining many of its original features to create a warm homely atmosphere for your stay.
Quiet restful B&B, 10 minutes off the main A20 Paris / Toulouse motorway, 6 hours from Calais, so perfect for a stop-over on your way south, or for a week's relaxation and meditation. Fresh garden produce in all our meals throughout the year.
Our house is set in two acres of land. For the true rural experience stroll around our fruit and veg garden, or watch the free range ducks and chickens. For relaxing and alfresco dining there is the newly planted garden with above ground swimming pool. We have a friendly dog and cat and you are welcome to bring your own dog.
Rooms
We have 4 bedrooms available:
Rose Bedroom - First floor - double bed, additional day bed and en-suite double shower. Stylishly decorated with views of the garden and countryside. Can accommodate up to 4 (2 adults and 2 children, or 3 adults). Connecting door to the adjacent Leaf bedroom makes it ideal for families.
Leaf Bedroom - First floor - twin bedroom with lovely views of the garden and countryside. Exclusive use of the hall bathroom with jet bath and can have an additional roll-away bed (so suitable for 3 adults or children). Connecting door to the adjacent Rose bedroom makes a perfect family suite.
The Wine Cellar - Ground floor - with a wet room with shower. Suitable for 2 adults and a child on a roll-away bed.
Yellow Bedroom - Ground floor - tastefully decorated double bedroom with full en-suite bathroom. Ample space for a cot, although not a child's bed.
All rooms can have a cot if needed.
Rooms are available on a bed and breakfast basis with optional evening menu. A hearty cooked breakfast is served in the dining room until late.
LOCAL AREA
With its stunning scenery and fine châteaux. Indre is the unspoilt heart of France and a wonderful region for all interests from canoeing along the river, fishing, birdwatching, golf and cycling. Visit the nearby lake at Eguzon for water sports and beaches or spend the day at one of the many riding schools. There are endless miles of mapped walks and we are 20 minutes from The Brenne National Park.
The chateau at Chateauguillaume is an hour’s drive and further afield the Chateau of Sarzay. Or visit the Valley of Frescoes between St. Savin and Saulge.
La Brenne Natural Park with its thousand lakes is a vast conservation area dotted with lakes and criss-crossed with bridle paths. There are organised hikes or you can simply set out on your own with a map.
At the Maison de la Brenne, visitors can learn about the region, its ancient traditions of fish farming and nature conservation.
A day out to visit the vast lake (Lac Chambon) at Eguzon is a must. The lake stretches for twenty-five kilometres and is the perfect place where you can learn to water-ski, sail and windsurf. There are several beaches for swimming and restaurants with a wonderful choice of menus.
La Chatre is famous for being the home town of George Sands, Chopin's mistress, and Gargilesse, the village where she spent time.
For a day out shopping, Chateauroux has all the major shops. The pretty town of Argenton-Sur-Creuse is our nearest town for shops, restaurants and cafés. The ancient houses sit on the banks of the river Creuse and the central square has a welcome cafe.
Futuroscope at Poitiers is 1½ hours away.
