The apartment is situated ½ mile from Plage de la Grande Côte with its pine forests and sand dunes. Seasonal shops within 100m including fresh local seafood take-away. Lots of good local restaurants. St Palais town centre and daily market just over a mile away.
The apartment is separated from the sea by the coast road leading to Plage de La Grande Côte and La Palmyre, together with a cycling path and footpath, the latter being part of the beautiful coastal path.
Opposite is the coastal path and a popular fishing stretch (deep sea trips can be organised at the hotel next door). Royan Golf Course & Equestrian Centre is 800m away. Nearby Sailing & Wind Surfing schools.
Details of the Apartment
The sea view is great and full of interest, including large boats and fishing activity, whilst at night the famous lighthouse can be clearly seen in the distance.
Accommodation comprises a lobby with two full size bunk beds, a double bedroom, bathroom with shower, separate wc, lounge/diner (with sofa-bed), kitchenette and large (17 m2) sunny SW facing terrace. Reserved parking to the rear.
The apartment is fully equipped. There is a cooker (4 rings), a microwave/grill, a full size refrigerator with an ice compartment and a new washing machine, telephone for outgoing local calls and incoming calls, hair-drier, electric iron, TV and hifi system which plays cassettes and CDs (does not receive long wave radio).
There are electric heaters in the bedroom, bathroom and lounge if you need them out of season.
LOCAL AREA
Tourist Office: In St. Palais, for free maps and other information, local events, entertainment, etc.
Coastal Path: Opposite the apartment. A wonderful walk all the way round to St. Palais.
Beaches: Within walking distance are Plage de la Grand Côte and Plage du Platin, both supervised in high season. The beach opposite the apartment (which disappears at high tide) is fine for paddling and sun bathing but is not recommended for swimming because of currents.
Parc de Loisir: (1 mile) Mini-golf, tennis, boating & fishing with walks around the lake.
Zoo: At Palmyre (5km).
Musée de La Poche de Royan: Highly recommended for the history of the last war in France.
Chemin de fer touristique de la Seudre: This little tourist train runs from Saujon to La Tremblade and back (June to Sept).
Fishing: M. Allias (Les Fallaises) runs deep sea fishing trips.

13th century Romanesque church at Vaux sur Mer
12th century town of Talmont - pretty little streets containing lots of craft shops
Near Barzan, the impressive pre-historic and Gallo-Romanic site of Le Fâ
Mornac-sur-Seudres - picturesque and full of local craft shops
The wonderful market at Saujon.
A bit further afield:
Blaye (impressive fortress), the fortified town of Brouage, Saintes (capital of the Cognac area) as well as Cognac itself, many naval attractions and the popular tourist island, Ile d'Oléron. You can also take the car ferry from Royan across to the famous Medoc vineyards and chateaux.
