LOCAL AREA
As well as the historic walled city of Saint Malo, within 30 minutes drive there are the beautiful medieval towns of Dinan and Dol De Bretagne, the ancient capital of Brittany. Across the unique "Barrage de la Rance" is the holiday resort of Dinard, very British in style with its Edwardian architecture.
Visit the fairytale château at Combourg or, for the children, the zoo and château at nearby La Bourbonsais or the Cobac Water-park.
Along the coast is the small port of Cancale, famous for its oysters, which are harvested in the bay, along with the famous mussels or "moules de bouchots".
Beaches and Mont Saint Michel:
The coast offers something for everybody with huge beaches and rocky areas. The nearest beach is only 5 minutes drive in the village of Cherrueix, which is renowned for its sand yachting. There are organised walks in the Bay of Mont St. Michel from various points in the bay (NB - the bay has the second fastest tide in the world). There are various other walks, starting from local villages, most of which give the opportunity for panoramic views across the bay.
Also we have cycles which guests can use, free of charge.
Markets:
All the local towns have regular markets that are well worth a visit and all selling fresh local produce, especially fish and shellfish.
Eating out:
Eating out is a real treat with a fantastic array of restaurants. If fish is your fancy, then you really will be spoilt for choice, with Fruits de Mer, a huge plate of shellfish, served in most restaurants, and local mussels in season (July to Sept).
There are the traditional savoury and sweet pancakes (galettes and crêpes) of the region.
The local Normandy and Brittany cider is available to sample at farms along the way, along with apple juice, for those in the driving seat!
Golf and Antiques:
For golfers we have one of the best courses for miles at Les Ormes, only 20 minutes drive and a Links course at Dinard. For those interested in antiques we have a list of the best Brocantes in the area.
With easy access to motorways heading in all directions, access to all parts of Brittany and Western Normandy is very convenient.
