'Les Marronniers' (The Chestnut Trees) is set in a walking and cycling paradise along riversides and through beautiful woodland.
At night, the low light pollution affords a fascinating panorama of stars – they don’t call this ‘the forgotten France’ for nothing; the Creuse is one of the most uncrowded parts of the country.
We offer the use of a spacious 200 year-old farmhouse, comfortably sleeping 8/10 in 4 large bedrooms and two cosy gîtes, stone cottages each for a family of four.
The 12 x 5 metre pool with Roman steps and built-in jacuzzi is surrounded by a spacious lawn and loungers.
Full-size trampoline, barbecues, boules, and a large selection of bicycles (and safety helmets) for you to use at no extra charge.
We live in our own separate accommodation on the premises - there to provide friendly help when required, but discretely out of your way.
Farmhouse
The farmhouse is simply a delight, offering spacious and comfortable accommodation in country style with lawned gardens and far-reaching views.
Accommodation:
1st Floor:
Three generous bedrooms, one with a double bed and two with twins (additional cot or Z-bed at no extra charge).
Full family bathroom with WC, bath and separate shower.
Ground Floor:
Fourth large (double) bedroom overlooking the pool and gardens (wheelchair accessible).
Second WC and shower room.
Comfortable sitting room with satellite TV, DVD player, books and family board games. The dining table seats 8-10.
Big country kitchen with large gas-fired range cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave, and dishwasher. (Washing machines in next-door storage block).
Outside tables and chairs, "Eskimo" cold boxes and plastic glasses for picnic use, or in the pool area.
Character features include exposed beams, stone and oak floors and original wooden staircase. Central heating and log burners.
Two large cool cellars.
Private terrace to catch the evening sun.
Gites
Comfortable modernised stone cottages, retaining many period features such as exposed timbers and stonework, and a soundproof thick stone partition wall. Each has a character of its own and both are set up comfortably for a family of four.
Gite 1. Cosy sitting area with rustic stone flooring, open-plan kitchen and dining space ample for four. WC and shower room on the ground floor. Double and twin bedrooms under the eaves (extra Z-bed or cot available at no additional cost).
Gite 2. WC and shower are in separate rooms on the upper floor, with a double and a twin bedroom. Larger downstairs living area, kitchen/dining area with ceramic tiled floors throughout. Electric radiator heating for off-season lets.
Each of the gites is fully equipped with cleaning equipment, crockery, cutlery and glassware, cooking utensils, gas oven and hob, microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster and barbecue. (Washing machines in next-door storage block). Outside tables and chairs on the sun terraces at the front of the building. "Eskimo" cold boxes and plastic glasses for picnic use, or in the pool area.
LOCAL AREA
The nearby villages of Crozant with its castle ruins, and Fresselines made famous by Monet, boast spectacular views of the Rivers Creuse and Sedelle. Lake Chambon with its safe sandy beaches, fishing, water-sports, and lakeside restaurants and bars is only 10 minutes away. There is a large equestrian centre the same distance away, and golf and tennis are also catered for. The ancient cities of Poitiers, Châteauroux and Limoges are within 90 minutes, and there are historical towns and villages closer by including Argenton, Guéret, La Souterraine.
There is a modern supermarket just 4 miles up the road at Eguzon.
