The property is set in the magnificent walled garden of the Maison de Maitre in St. Marcel sur Aude, in the sunny south of France, surrounded by productive vineyards.

The well maintained lawned gardens extend to approximately ½ acre, with large mature trees that provide shaded areas. This quiet private garden has been described by visitors as an oasis, hidden in an old village. The sound of the cascading fountain in the lily ponds compliments the bird songs.

The old village has a boulangerie, restaurant, bar and pharmacy within 200 yards of the property. There are two supermarkets and other village services.

Wine from the surrounding vines can be tasted in many local caves.

These 2 large and impressive gites and indoor heated swimming pool are on the first floor of a restored wine chai and the smaller gite is on the ground floor. Secure off road parking is provided, the 3 separate BBQ areas are secluded and are, as would be expected in a quality holiday venue, equipped with all the necessary garden furniture.

An attractive external staircase leads to the stunning swimming pool; there is under water lighting for night swimming.  It measures 8 meters by 5.5 meters; the depth is 1.5 meters at the shallow end slowly deepening to 2 meters.

There is also an in indoor games room with table tennis table and a football game, outside a badminton net and swings in the garden for the children.

Cots, highchairs and a baby walker are available free of charge.

First Floor Gites

Each gite has been tastefully restored and enjoys large open plan living areas. The kitchen/dining areas are spacious and fully equipped, each having cooker with extractor fan, microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The comfortable lounge area has Sky satellite television with DVD player.

4 Bedroomed gite - sleeps 8/9

Twin bedroom and double bedroom, both en suite plus a further double and twin bedroom. The bathroom has a bath with shower over, washbasin and toilet. There are 2 sofa beds in the lounge.

This gite has private direct access to the indoor swimming pool.

3 Bedroomed gite - sleeps 6

Double bedroom and two twin bedrooms. The bathroom has a multi spray shower, washbasin and toilet. There is a sofa bed in the lounge.

 

New for 2009: fully en suite bathroom in the double bedroom, giving the property two bathrooms.

Ground Floor

1 Bedroomed gite - sleeps 2

High beamed ceilings, large double bedroom, bathroom with multi spray shower, vanity unit and toilet. Spacious and fully equipped kitchen/dining area with cooker with extractor fan, microwave, fridge freezer and washing machine. A cool box and freezer blocks are provided. The lounge area is spacious with comfortable seating, Sky satellite television and DVD player. There are fans in all rooms.

LOCAL AREA

Excellent shopping and markets, stylish restaurants and open-air cafes can be enjoyed in Narbonne, as well as excellent cultural, sports and entertainment facilities.

A few minutes drive away there are boats for hire on the Canal du Midi, cycling and walking and our nearest beaches are Narbonne Plage and Gruissan, both about 16 miles away.

The area is famous for its watersports with the many etangs offering safe coastal stretches of water with rivers, lakes and canals offering other watersports. There is a sailboard and double kayak available for use. 

There are exhibitions, local markets, fetes and Cathar castles, as well as a host of sites and activities in the region, including Carcassonne, Andorra, ski-ing, Figueres and countless wine caves.
