Montplaisir is in southern Charente Maritime, just on the edge of the town of Montendre and within a few miles of the Dordogne and Aquitaine.
It is on the D19 and just 20 minutes from the A10 (easy to find.) Both are the main roads to the South and Spain, ideal for a half way stopover.
Montendre caters very much for families and the facilities also include a nine-hole golf course and a beautiful lake and leisure complex sprawling amongst the pines at the edge of the forest with a beach and supervised swimming for the youngsters (July & August). There is also boating and quiet places to fish, picnic areas, an open air swimming pool, a children's playground, restaurant and excellent shopping facilities. Royan, Angouleme, Auberterre and Talmont, Cognac, St Emilion and Bordeaux are all within easy driving distance.
In addition to our Chambres d'Hotes we are pleased to offer an evening meal on the traditional Tabled'Hote basis.
Montplaisir is a lovely old house, built over 140 years ago. It is set in over two acres of lawn and shaded wooded areas. The gardens are ideal for for lazing away on a summers day or enjoying wine by candlelight on a balmy evening. We even have a small, above ground swimming pool (21ft x 12 ft), to cool you off on hot sunny days
Close to local amenities it is an ideal location for holidaying in this glorious part of France either on a Bed & Breakfast vacation or half board.

LOCAL AREA
Holidaying in the Charente Maritime is a glorious experience. It is the second sunniest region in France and the countryside is paradise. The landscape is rolling and is a mixture of vines, forest and meadows. For fishing there are many rivers and lakes, there are several equestrian centres and the terrain is ideal for the rambler and cyclist.
The local eating is also wonderful, with many local specialities to choose from and visits can be arranged to the producers of wine and the grand Cognac houses.
There are many lovely towns and villages, including Montendre where we live, and Jonzac is a delightful town boasting a lovely chateau in its main square.
The centre of the cognac production is the ancient town of Cognac. The town is well worth a visit for its architecture alone. All the main cognac houses provide guided tours (with the inevitable tasting).
Fascinating days out include the Gironde estuary (20 minutes), the idyllic village of Talmont and Royan, with its beaches and marinas.
Montendre lies just north of the Aquitaine border and the beautiful countryside of the Dordogne river. This area is well worth a visit.
For retail therapy, Bordeaux (50 minutes) boasts the longest high street in Europe.
